What Android Phones Are Waterproof? Waterproof Android Phone List for 2016/2017

The ultimate list of waterproof Android phones of the most popular manufacturers (Samsung, Sony, HTC, Alcatel, Lenovo, CAT and more).

A few years ago there were very few waterproof Android phones. Even if some model was waterproof and shockproof, it was quite expensive and had much worse technical specs. You had to make a though choice between the quality of your phone (and often its looks) or its water resistance.

Nowadays, fortunately, you don’t have to make that choice any more. It’s not difficult at all to find a good waterproof and shockproof Android phone. Many great or even flagship Android phones are both dust and waterproof. Not only can you use them in the rain but some models even let you shoot photos under water. Isn’t that cool? Yes, it absolutely is.

Let me show you quite a long list of waterproof Android phones of the most popular manufacturers. You will find here both flagship models (a bit more expensive) and still quite nice low-budget options.

Do you think that some good waterproof Android phone is missing on this list? Let me know about it so that I can add it here. You can either leave a comment or contact me directly.

Waterproof Android Phone List (Part One): Samsung Phones

Samsung phones are without doubt the most popular Android phones.

Samsung offers the biggest number of different models both from the high and low price range, so you will certainly find something just right for you here.

I have chosen EIGHT best waterproof Samsung Android phones for you. These are both flagship phones and their a bit cheaper alternatives.

Below you will find basic information about each waterproof Android phone, its photo, detailed information about its water  and shock resistance and basic technical specs. If you want to learn more about a given phone or buy it, use the “READ MORE” link on the bottom of each description.

Samsung Waterproof Android Phone No.1: Samsung Galaxy S7

I am starting this list from the phone I have and use on a daily basis, that is, Samsung Galaxy S7. This is one of the best Android phones I have ever had. It’s the flagship phone of Samsung and currently the most popular and the best waterproof Android phone.

WATER RESISTANCE: IP68 certified, which means it’s both dust and water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes. I have checked its water resistance multiple times (in the rain or in the bath) and I can confirm that it is waterproof and you can shoot photos under water.

Waterproof Samsung Android Phone No.3: Samsung Galaxy S7 Active

Even though this time Samsung made its two flagship models (S7 and S7 Edge) dustproof and waterproof, you can also use its most durable version, that is, Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. This is both a waterproof and shockproof Android phone.

WATER & SHOCK RESISTANCE: This model is IP68 certified (like its two brothers) and also MIL-STD-810G certified, which means that it’s protected from salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock.

When it comes to its looks, it has much more “solid” looks and two physical buttons on the front.

Waterproof Samsung Android Phone No.4: Samsung Galaxy S6 Active

Samsung Galaxy S7 hasn’t become very popular because the “main” flagships in this series (S7 and S7 Edge) are also waterproof. In the case of the Galaxy S6 series it’s a little bit different because S6 Active is the only waterproof version.  Even though it isn’t the newest phone, it’s still a very good and decent model I can recommend to anyone.

Its specs and performance are almost the same as in the case of Galaxy S7 series.

WATER & SHOCK RESISTANCE: This model is both IP68 and MIL-STD-810G certified. It means that it’s dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes. It’s also protected from salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock.

  • PRICE RANGE: 9/10

Waterproof Samsung Android Phone No.4: Samsung Galaxy S5 Active

If you want to have a great and waterproof phone but don’t want to spend too much money on it, you can go for Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. This is the active version of the Galaxy S5 series from 2014 but it isn’t very far from S6 or S7 in terms of performance and specs (believe me).

Samsung has to release a new phone each year and the difference between newer and older models are getting smaller and smaller.

WATER & SHOT RESISTANCE: S5 Active is  IP67 certified, which means it’s dust and water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes. It’s also MIL-STD-810G certified so it’s protected from salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock.

Waterproof Android Phone List: Samsung Galaxy S5 ActiveMain technical specs:

  • Year released: 2014

  • 2 GB of RAM, Snapdragon 801
  • microSD card slot
  • Removable Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery
  • PRICE RANGE: 9/10

Waterproof Samsung Android Phone No.4: Samsung Galaxy S5

This is a little bit odd but the whole Galaxy S5 series is waterproof while the S6 Series is not. If you want to have a bit lighter phone and less bulky than Samsung Galaxy S5 active, you might to buy a regular Samsung Galaxy S5.

This phone comes from 2014 but it’s still great in terms of both looks and technical specs.

If you are looking for a bit smaller phone and with still quite good technical specifications, you might want to try the mini version of the two above phones, i.e. Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini.

This is quite a new phone as it was released in October 2016 so it’s still a bit pricey.

Some of its phone models are waterproof. Let me show you my three favorites.

Motorola Waterproof Android Phone No. 1: Motorola Moto G (3rd gen)

I have been playing with this phone for some time and I really liked it. The phone has very good technical specs, very decent price and is waterproof. Its 13 MP camera shoots really nice photos. Waterproof Android Phone List (Part Four): HTC Phones

A few years ago the only phone I loved and wanted to have was a HTC phone. I stopped using this phone model when I once accidentally dropped my beloved HTC into water. Unfortunately, a few years ago almost no HTC phone was waterproof.

Fortunately, this has changed and now we have a few water resistant HTC phones.

Waterproof HTC Phone No. 1: HTC Desire Eye

I had this phone for a short while but I had to sell it because it turned out to be a bit too large for me. If it hadn’t been for its size, I would have never got rid of this phone. This is a very good phone in terms of its looks, performance and capabilities.

It’s one of the few HTC phones which are completely water-resistant (HTC never made its flagship models waterproof).

WATER RESISTANCE:  HTC Desire Eye is IPX7 certified, so it’s dust proof and water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes.

CAT phones may not be the most beautiful Android phones in the word but they are certainly the most durable phones. It’s really difficult to destroy a CAT phone. That’s why they are recommended for anyone who leads a very active lifestyle and needs to have a phone that will survive almost any conditions.

Here I have chosen three CAT phone models you might want to consider.

CAT Waterproof phone: S60

Waterproof Android Phone List (Part Six): Other Watherproof Android Phones

Alcatel Waterproof  Android Phone: Alcatel OneTouch Go Play
